Tvätteshallarna

On Kullahalvön (the Kulla Peninsula) in southern Sweden is a gorgeous swimming spot with a walkway into the water, and a pontoon to swim to.

If you, a crow, were to head south from Hovs Hallar for 25 km you would chance upon Tvätteshallarna. A low-key kind of swimming spot in the town of Svanshall with a raised concrete walkway taking you out past the rocks and seaweed to deeper waters. The walkway is sometimes underwater during particularly high tides or storm surges. Invariably slippery steps lead you down into the water. Thankfully there's a railing to hold on to.

It gets deep quickly

During the warmer months a pontoon in tethered to a concrete block a short swim away. It's great to have a destination when you set off from the walkway, and it's a perfect spot for a relaxing lie in the warming sun, or with its little raised platform, a cannonball into the sea.

I can't resist making a splash

There is no sand at all. Instead, there are big nearly horizontal slabs of rock partially covered in moss and lichen. Finding a comfortable place to lie down is possible - and it's nice and warm if the sun has been out - but it's not comfy like a sand beach. It's a very different experience to a swim at a sandy beach.

I nearly think it's nicer, because you don't get sand in your jocks.
