Currency Creek
If it ever rains.

23.8 mm. That's how much rain we'd received in Adelaide at the end of April 2025. The mean is 107.3. We're 78% below the mean rainfall. And in the 120 days that passed between New Years Morning and the end of April, only 10 of those days recorded any precipitation at all. While these numbers and statistics from this page of the BOM are quite stark, it doesn't really convey just how crispy dry everything has felt this year.
Creek dips are mostly just a distant memory. The smaller creeks that rely on half decent overland flow are completely dry. But, forever the optimist, I see this as an opportunity to try to find some new potential spots for swims once the water does come back.
Last weekend I went for a stroll along Currency Creek, hoping to find a spot with some flowing water that was deep enough to plunge. I had no luck with that, but I did find and photograph (badly) a spot that I hope will make a good little dunking pool after a bit of rain.

It's really hard to see from my photo, but there is a rock wall to the right that will form a natural weir, and upstream of it the creek is quite deep. I'll know that if the water is lapping at the trunk of the gum in the centre that I can probably happily soak in the creek with the depth of that pool.
Stay tuned for an update.
